Краткая информация о деятельности Общества Грузино-Британской
дружбы Марджори и Оливера Уордропов

Общество было учреждено 6-го ноября 2000-го года в Грузинском Техническом Университете (ГТУ),
при участии Ректора, проф. Рамаза Хуродзе; проф.: Н. Сихарулидзе и Ш. Начкебия; руководителя Кабинета Джорджа Вашингтона при ГТУ, Теймураза Рухадзе; Посла Великобритании в Грузии к тому времени, Ричарда Дженкинса; Военного атташе, Эндрю Кэрри и др.
Председателем Общества был избран господин Теймураз Рухадзе, по инициативе которого до этого проводились ряд мероприятии: 26-го ноября 1999-го года в Тбилисском Педагогическом Университете была проведена научная конференция и театрализированный вечер, посвящённый 130-летию со дня рождения Марджори Уордроп; в июне 2000-го года в связи с 80-летием со дня учреждения Первой Дипломатической Миссии Великобритании на Южном Кавказе, в торжественной обстановке была открыта мемориальная доска на фасаде здания (ул. П. Ингороква № 14, в г. Тбилиси), где функционировала указанная миссия в 1919-1921 годах. На доске сказано и о том, что Первым Главным Уполномоченным Великобритании являлся Сэр Оливер Уордроп.
В настоящее время в Обществе числятся около 200 членов, в том числе парламентарии, академики, профессора и студенты. Почётным Президентом Общества является академик Ройн Метревели; в Правлении Общества входят (кроме председателя): академик Мария Лордкипанидзе, профессора: Теймураз Хуродзе, Теймураз Кобахидзе, Реваз Мишвеладзе, Нугзар Сихарулидзе; студент Гиорги Рухадзе.
В 2002-ом году, в честь «Золотого Юбилея» Королевы Великобритании, Елизаветы II, усилиями Общества, в Тбилисском Государственном Университете имени Джавахишвили была организована большая научная конференция, а в Тбилисской Государственной Консерватории торжественный вечер и концерт. В июне 2003-го года, в дни Национального Праздника Британии, в Представительство Аджарии был организован приём и концерт, посвящённый памятью брата и сестры Уордропов.
Общество активное участие приняло в организованном Британским Советом Национальном турне по городам Грузии «Выставка Уордропов 2003». В рамках этого мероприятия, по просьбе Общества, Мэрия
города Кутаиси присвоила имя «Брата и сестры Уордропов» одной из улиц в центре города.
В 2004-ом году, усилиями Общества, в Грузии широко отмечается три знаменательных событии: 140 лет со дня рождения Сэра Оливера Уордропа, 135 лет со дня рождения Марджори Уордроп и 85 лет со дня открытия Первой Дипломатической Миссии на Южном Кавказе.
Ареал деятельности Общества не ограничивается только увековечением памяти Уордропов, так как статус Общества Грузино-Британской дружбы подразумевает широкий спектр вопросов взаимоотношении двух стран: способствование и углубление связей в сферах политики, экономики, культуры, науки, образования, спорта, туризма и так далее.











Brief information on activity of the Friendship Society of Georgia and
Britain Marjori and Oliver Wardrops

The society has been founded on 6-th of November 2000 year at Georgian Technical University (GTU),
at participation of the Rector, prof. Ramaz Khurodze; prof.: N.Siharulidze and S.Nachkebija; the head of the George Vashington Room at GTU, Teimuraz Rukhadze; the Ambassador of the Great Britain in Georgia by then, Richard Jenkins; the Military attache, Andrew Kerri, etc.
By chairman of the Society mister Teimuraz Rukhadze under which initiative before were carried out(spent) a number(line) action has been elected: on 26-th of November 1999 year at the Tbilisi Pedagogical University scientific conference and solemn the evening devoted to the 130-anniversary from birthday Marjori Wardrop has been lead(has been carried out); in June of 2000 year in connection with the 80-anniversary from the date of establishment of the First Diplomatic Mission of the Great Britain on Southern Caucasus, in solemn conditions the memorial board on a facade of a building (was open by street. P.Ingorokva № 14, in Tbilisi) where the specified mission in 1919-1921 function. On a board it is told and that the First Main Representative of the Great Britain was Sir Oliver Wardrop.
Now in the Society members of parliament, academicians, professors and students are registered about 200 members, including. The honorable President of the Society is academician Rojn Metreveli; in Board of the Society enter (except for chairman): academician Maria Lordkipanidze, professors: Teimuraz Khurodze, Teimuraz Kobahidze, Revaz Mishveladze; Nugzar Sikharulidze; student Giorgi Ruhadze.
In 2002 year, in honor of " Gold Anniversary » Queens of the Great Britain, Elizabeth II, efforts of the Society, at the Tbilisi State University of name Javakhishvili had been organized the big scientific conference, and in the Tbilisi State Conservatory solemn evening and a concert. In June of 2003 year, in days of the National Holiday of Britain, in Representation Adzharii reception and a concert devoted by memory of the brother and sister Wardrops have been organized.
The society has accepted active participation in the National tour organized by the British Council on cities of Georgia « Exhibition Wardrops 2003 ». Within the framework of this action, at the request of the Society, the Mayoralty cities Kutaisi has appropriated(given) a name « the Brother and sisters Wardrops » one of streets in city centre.
In 2004 year, efforts of the Society, in Georgia it is widely marked three significant event: 140 years from birthday of Sir Oliver Wardrop, 135 years from birthday Marjori Wardrop and 85 years from the date of opening the First Diplomatic Mission on Southern Caucasus.
The area of activity of the Society is not limited only to perpetuating of memory Wardrops as the status of the Friendship Society of the Georgia and Britain means a wide spectrum of questions mutual relation of two countries: contribution and a deepening of communications(connections) in spheres of a policy(politics), economy, culture, a science, formation(education), sports, tourism and so on.
